Real people at last!

Meeting of the DARIAH WG and nomisma.org

The DARIAH-EU Digital Numismatics Working Group and nomisma.org held a one-day meeting in Oxford on March 4th 2022. The workshop at the Ashmolean Museum was the first time that almost the entire group met in person since the meeting in Messina in May 2019, and we were very happy to welcome a number of new colleagues to the group for a lively exchange.

Topics of discussion included how to deal with various aspects of the concept of uncertainty in the modelling of numismatic data and, how to incorporate into Coinage of the Roman Republic Online (CRRO) the large number of types and sub-types that have become known since the publication of M. Crawford’s Roman Republican Coinage.

A further focus was on organising the creation of the Linked Open Data concepts for Medieval and Early Modern European numismatics. It is planned to hold an initial meeting of colleagues from a core group of countries in Zürich in the summer.
